About  Us

A personal note from Vladimir Fanshil & Eleanor Lyons

Live at Yours began in the most unexpected way — in our own living room. In 2020, when the world fell silent, we refused to believe that music should exist only on screens. So we gathered a handful of people, pulled the chairs close, and performed for twenty guests at a time. Those evenings were small, fragile, unforgettable — and they reminded us why we became musicians: to share something real, something human, something that only exists when people come together.

A New Way to Experience Music

In the first years, we travelled across NSW and the ACT, giving more than 50 performances in lounge rooms, coffee roasteries, tin sheds in the outback, art galleries, churches, synagogues and regional theatres.

It was in those intimate settings that we connected deeply with locals, listened to their feedback, and discovered what Australians truly value in live music: informal yet refined, relaxed yet deeply sincere, intimate yet world-class.

Those conversations shaped everything — from our welcoming tone to having no intervals, allowing the emotional arc to flow without interruption. This is how we crafted the ultimate listening experience we offer today: personal, natural and genuinely shared.

From a lounge room to a national stage

Live at Yours has now grown far beyond our living room — into concert spaces across Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra, Orange, Castlemaine and beyond — yet the essence remains unchanged.

Every venue is chosen for its story and atmosphere. Every performance is lit and shaped to feel close, warm and immersive. And every artist who joins us shares our belief in vulnerability, honesty and connection.

World-class artists, up close

Extraordinary artists, shared in intimate spaces — where every detail comes alive.

Committed to the next generation

As Live at Yours grows, so does our responsibility to young musicians. Through masterclasses, mentoring, and partnerships with ANAM and the Sydney Conservatorium, we help the next generation experience the same intimacy and inspiration that shaped our early years.

Thank you for being part of this journey!
We can’t wait to welcome you — up close, and personal.

Propranolol: A Doctor’s Practical Guide for Australians Over 30

Attention: If you are over 30, you have probably experienced the sudden racing heart before a speech, the trembling hands in a job interview, the flushing and sweating when all eyes are on you. Maybe you have also battled migraines that steal your weekends, or panic attacks that come out of nowhere. You may have been told to “just relax” — but your body does not listen. As a doctor, I see this every day. The good news is that a well-known, affordable medication called propranolol has been quietly helping Australians manage these physical symptoms for decades.

Interest: Propranolol is a beta-blocker. In simple terms, it blocks the effects of adrenaline — the stress hormone that makes your heart pound, your hands shake, your voice wobble and your face flush. Unlike sedatives such as benzodiazepines, propranolol does not slow your thinking or cause dependence. It works on the body’s alarm system, so you stay sharp while your body stays calm. For many people over 30, that is exactly what they need.

What Is Propranolol Used For?

Propranolol has been used in Australia for more than 50 years. It is prescription-only, but it is widely available and inexpensive at any Australian pharmacy with a valid script. Common uses include:

Common Propranolol Doses for Adults Over 30
Indication Typical Oral Dose Onset & Duration
Performance / situational anxiety 10–40 mg as a single dose, 30–60 minutes before event Starts in 30–60 min; lasts 3–4 hours
Panic disorder (adjunct) 40–160 mg per day, often in divided doses Regular use; benefit builds over days to weeks
Migraine prevention Start at 20–40 mg twice daily; up to 160 mg/day May take 4–8 weeks for full effect
Surgery anxiety (premedication) 10–40 mg, 1 hour before procedure Short-term calming of heart rate and tremor
Essential tremor 40–120 mg per day, divided Regular use; improves shaking within days

Desire: Why Propranolol Might Be Right for You

Propranolol and Anxiety — How Many mg to Take

One of the most common questions I hear is: “How much propranolol do I need for anxiety?” The answer depends on the situation. For occasional, situational anxiety — a presentation, a flight, a difficult conversation — a single dose of 10–40 mg taken 30–60 minutes beforehand is usually enough. The dose is individual: some people notice a benefit with just 10 mg, while others need 20 mg or 40 mg to stop the physical surge.

Propranolol 10 mg for Anxiety — Is That Enough?

For a first-time user or someone with mild symptoms, 10 mg can be enough to blunt a racing heart or mild tremor. However, if you are facing a high-stakes event and your physical symptoms are strong, 10 mg may feel too weak. In my practice, many patients over 30 find that 20–40 mg is the sweet spot for performance anxiety. The beauty of propranolol is that it can be titrated: start low, see how your body responds, and adjust under medical guidance.

Propranolol for Panic Disorder — Evidence

Panic disorder is different from situational anxiety. The evidence for propranolol in panic disorder is mixed. Randomised controlled trials show that propranolol reduces the physical symptoms of panic — palpitations, sweating, chest tightness, tremor — but it does not reliably stop the fearful thoughts themselves. That is why propranolol is not usually the sole first-line treatment for panic disorder. However, as an adjunct to psychological therapy or an SSRI, it can be very useful. For people over 30 who fear the bodily sensations of panic, propranolol can break the cycle: when the heart no longer races, the panic often loses its fuel.

Propranolol for Surgery Anxiety — Premedication

Many Australians feel anxious before surgery or medical procedures. Propranolol is sometimes used as a premedication: a single dose of 10–40 mg taken about one hour before the procedure can reduce tachycardia, tremor and the physical signs of anxiety. It does not cause the drowsiness or confusion that sedatives can cause, which makes it a practical option when you need to remain alert for consent and instructions.

Propranolol and Dialysis — Removal by Haemodialysis

If you or someone you know is on dialysis, you may worry about whether propranolol is safe. The key point is that propranolol is not significantly removed by haemodialysis. It is highly protein-bound and has a large volume of distribution, meaning it stays in the body during dialysis. In most cases, no supplemental dose is needed after a dialysis session. This makes propranolol a convenient choice for people with kidney failure who need beta-blocker therapy. Of course, your nephrologist will adjust the dose based on your overall health, but haemodialysis itself does not “wash out” propranolol.

Propranolol and Medication Overuse Headache — Caution

Propranolol is an excellent preventive treatment for migraine, but it is not a cure for medication overuse headache (MOH). If you are taking painkillers or triptans more than 10–15 days per month, you may actually be causing a rebound headache cycle. In that situation, starting propranolol without addressing the overuse is often less effective and can delay the real solution. As a doctor, I always check for medication overuse before prescribing propranolol for migraine. If MOH is present, we first plan a careful withdrawal of the overused acute medications, then use propranolol as prevention. This caution protects you from unnecessary side effects and disappointment.

Propranolol and Glaucoma — Not Effective

Some beta-blockers, such as timolol eye drops, are used to treat glaucoma by lowering pressure inside the eye. However, oral propranolol is not an effective treatment for glaucoma. While it may have a small effect on intraocular pressure, it is not strong enough, and the doses needed would cause unnecessary side effects. If you have glaucoma or high eye pressure, do not rely on propranolol tablets. Eye drops prescribed by an ophthalmologist remain the standard of care. Propranolol is simply not the right tool for that job.

Propranolol and Cognitive Decline — Research

Many people over 30 worry about memory and long-term brain health. You may have read that beta-blockers can cause “brain fog” or increase dementia risk. The research is reassuring but nuanced. Short-term, some people report mild fatigue or mental slowing when starting propranolol. However, large observational studies have not found strong evidence that propranolol causes long-term cognitive decline or dementia. In fact, some research suggests that controlling blood pressure and reducing the physical stress response may be protective for the brain over time. If you experience mental fog on propranolol, it is usually dose-related and reversible. Discuss any concerns with your GP, but do not let fear of memory loss keep you from a medication that could dramatically improve your quality of life.

Action: Take the Next Step

Propranolol is not a “lifestyle” drug — it is a safe, well-studied, non-addictive medication that has helped millions of people manage the physical symptoms of anxiety, panic, migraine and tremor. For Australians over 30, it offers a practical alternative to sedatives and a way to regain control in high-pressure moments.

Here is what you can do today:

  1. Book an appointment with your GP. Ask specifically about propranolol and whether it is suitable for you.
  2. Describe your symptoms. Mention racing heart, tremor, flushing, migraines or panic — these are the symptoms propranolol treats best.
  3. Ask about dosing. For situational anxiety, ask if 10–40 mg as needed is appropriate. For migraine prevention, ask about a daily low-dose plan.
  4. Get your prescription filled. Propranolol is widely available and affordable at pharmacies across Australia.

Remember: propranolol is prescription-only in Australia and is not suitable for everyone, particularly people with uncontrolled asthma, certain heart rhythm problems or low blood pressure. Always consult your doctor before starting or changing any medication.

Don’t let a pounding heart or shaking hands hold you back any longer. With the right guidance, propranolol could be the simple, effective solution you have been looking for.
